While design director at Story Inc, Dean led the installation team that had been appointed by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise to design and build the New Zealand Pavilion for the 2005 World Expo at Aichi, Japan. The Expo’s theme was Nature’s Wisdom and the search for a sustainable civilisation in the 21st century.

The New Zealand pavilion focussed on our natural environment and was designed to provide a quiet respite from the crowded Expo park. At its centre was a boulder of New Zealand jade that was touched by millions of visitors.
